Montgomery County Sports Fact of the Day 🏀 One of the men who helped change the way basketball is played grew up right here in Crawfordsville. Ward “Piggy” Lambert played basketball at Crawfordsville High School and Wabash College before becoming one of the greatest coaches in Purdue history. And get this… Lambert stood just 5-foot-6, but went on to coach Purdue for 29 seasons, win 11 Big Ten championships, and help pioneer the fast-paced style of basketball we now know as the fast break. 🔥 Oh yeah… he also coached and mentored a Purdue player named John Wooden. You might have heard of him. 😂 From Crawfordsville basketball to influencing how the game was played across the country — that’s some serious Montgomery County sports history.
