Is It Time to Worry About the Philadelphia Eagles?

By Dan Oates | Buzzed Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-2.

Four games into the 2026 season, that record alone isn’t reason to panic. But after watching the Eagles fall 24-20 to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, there are legitimate reasons to start asking some uncomfortable questions.

Is this just an early-season slump, or does Philadelphia have a much bigger problem?

The Eagles held a 20-10 lead entering the fourth quarter Sunday and still found a way to lose. Los Angeles scored 14 unanswered points while Philadelphia’s offense disappeared when the Eagles needed it most.

And right now, there isn’t just one obvious person to blame.

What Is Going On With Jalen Hurts?

Let’s start with the quarterback.

Jalen Hurts finished the Rams game completing just 12 of 27 passes for 93 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

That’s a 44.4% completion percentage and only 3.4 yards per attempt.

For a quarterback expected to lead a championship-caliber offense, those numbers simply aren’t good enough.

Hurts also took four sacks, leaving Philadelphia with just 68 net passing yards for the entire game.

The two touchdown passes look good in the box score, but Philadelphia never established a consistent passing attack. The Eagles couldn’t sustain drives, couldn’t consistently push the football downfield and couldn’t make the plays necessary to close out the game.

And this wasn’t an isolated performance.

Hurts threw for only 153 yards with no passing touchdowns and an interception in Philadelphia’s Week 3 loss to Chicago.

That means over the last two games, Hurts has thrown for just 246 combined yards as Philadelphia has gone 0-2.

At some point, the quarterback has to be part of the conversation.

Is Sean Mannion the Answer?

Philadelphia entered 2026 with Sean Mannion taking over as offensive coordinator, and four games into the experiment, it’s fair to question exactly what this Eagles offense is supposed to be.

Where is the identity?

Where is the rhythm?

Where are the explosive plays?

And where are the adjustments when things aren’t working?

The most alarming statistic from Sunday’s loss might be Philadelphia going 0-for-12 on third down.

Zero conversions.

You aren’t going to consistently win NFL games when your offense can’t convert a single third down.

Head coach Nick Sirianni defended Mannion following the loss and emphasized that Philadelphia’s offensive problems fall on everyone rather than one coach or player.

That’s fair.

But if this offense continues struggling, the pressure on Mannion — and Sirianni — is only going to increase.

The Offensive Line Isn’t Helping

Philadelphia has built much of its offensive identity over the years around dominating the line of scrimmage.

That dominance wasn’t there Sunday.

The Eagles finished with 104 rushing yards, but the numbers don’t tell the entire story.

Tank Bigsby led Philadelphia with 55 yards on 14 carries, while Saquon Barkley managed only eight yards on two attempts before leaving the game with a hamstring injury.

Philadelphia was also without Lane Johnson, leaving the offensive line shorthanded against the Rams.

Injuries absolutely matter.

But the Eagles still need to find ways to create running lanes, protect Hurts and allow this offense to operate.

When the offensive line isn’t controlling the game, Philadelphia suddenly looks like a very different football team.

The Numbers Tell the Story

The final score was only 24-20.

The rest of the box score wasn’t nearly as close.

Total offense: Rams 415, Eagles 172

First downs: Rams 26, Eagles 12

Passing: Matthew Stafford 317 yards, Jalen Hurts 93 yards

Third downs: Rams 7-for-16, Eagles 0-for-12

Sacks allowed: Eagles 4

Fourth-quarter scoring: Rams 14, Eagles 0

Philadelphia’s defense actually gave the offense opportunities, intercepting Stafford twice.

The offense couldn’t capitalize.

Even more concerning, the Eagles failed to score on their final six possessions after building a 20-10 advantage.

That’s how a winnable game turns into a loss.

So Who Deserves the Blame?

That’s the million-dollar question.

Is it Jalen Hurts?

Is it Sean Mannion?

Is it Nick Sirianni?

Is it the offensive line?

Are injuries already taking their toll?

Or is Philadelphia discovering that this roster simply isn’t as complete as many expected?

The answer might be a little bit of everything.

It’s too early to declare the Eagles’ season a disaster. They’re 2-2 with plenty of football left to play.

But it’s not too early to be concerned.

A team with Philadelphia’s expectations shouldn’t be producing 172 yards of offense. Its starting quarterback shouldn’t be struggling to reach 100 passing yards. And an offense with this much talent shouldn’t go an entire game without converting a third down.

Most importantly, the Eagles need to figure out what kind of football team they want to be.

Because right now, Philadelphia doesn’t look like a team with an offensive identity.

Four weeks into the season, the Eagles aren’t in panic mode yet.

But the warning lights are officially flashing.

What do YOU think?

Who’s most responsible for Philadelphia’s 2-2 start — Hurts, Mannion, Sirianni, the offensive line, injuries, or something else?

Drop your take and join the debate.
